What items are required to register?

EMTS Academy General Admissions Policy

Emergency Management Training and Services (EMTS Academy) does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, national origin, religion, age, political beliefs, handicap, or any other factor, in its employment practices or in its policies relating to recruitment of students.

Each level of EMS education has specific entry requirements; each entry requirement must be met prior to enrollment of the selected course.

EMT enrollment requirements:

  1. Students must have a high school diploma or GED from a public or private school or equivalent.
  2. Students who are currently enrolled in high school must be 17 and have a letter from a school counselor providing the date of expected graduation.
  3. Minimum enrollment age is 18.  However, students who are 17 by the first day of class may sign a waiver for enrollment, but will not be eligible for state certification until age 18.
  4. EMT applicants must pass a 150-word writing sample with a minimum of an 8th grade ability.
  5. Pass a functional job description physical and provide the functional job description physical form signed by a medical professional.
  6. An American Heart Association BLS CPR card must be issued no more than 6 months prior to the start date of class. Austin/Travis County EMS CPR Division: (512) 978-0175. Paramedic enrollment requirements; must meet the EMT enrollment requirements above and requirements below

  1. Pass a state approved EMT course and provide evidence of successful course completion.
  2. You must pass the NREMT for EMT and maintain TDSHS EMT certification throughout the term of the course.
  3. Paramedic applicants must pass a 150-word writing sample with a minimum of an 10th grade ability.

 

Steps to enroll in an EMS Course:

  1. Read the Texas Department of State Health Services Information Links on Certification and Licensure, Job Description, and Disabilities Accommodations Act.

  3. Verify you have the required registration documents listed on our FAQ page.
  4. Be certain to begin your Hepatitis B Vaccine Series as soon as possible, if you have not completed it already.  This vaccine is required to be completed before your clinical rotations can begin. You may still register for an EMT course if you have not started your series, however your clinical times may be delayed beyond graduation and may prevent you from graduating on time.
  5. Apply for the class you would like to take by clicking Register Here at the top of the webpage and submit the registration request application; pay special attention to the writing sample as it is graded to meet entry level for enrollment.
  6. An email will be sent to you after you submit the registration request application.  This email will contain the information about your class, immunization and background check instructions, an immunization form, physical form, and uniform order sheet.

  • High school diploma or GED: Students must have a high school diploma or GED from a public or private school or equivalent.  If issued a foreign diploma, a foreign equivalency exam is required.
  • Fingerprint Card: An original State of Texas finger print card FD-258.  This can be obtained at IdentoGo locations.  Schedule an appointment here:https://uenroll.identogo.com/workflows/1111G2
  • Verified Credentials Background Check and student records management system: A code will be provided to you upon submitting your online registration request form.
  • Immunization Documentation: The EMTS Immunization Form will be emailed to you after you submit the online registration request form.  Please have this form signed by your health care provider.  The form will include the following:
  • Meningitis Vaccine Must have received one dose within the last 5 years a the time of application and stay within date during the course.  This is a clinical site requirement regardless of student age.  Please inform your health care provider of this requirement if you are over 21.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR): 2 doses or serological evidence of immunity
  • Varicella (Chicken Pox): Either 2 doses of the vaccine, serological evidence of immunity or physician documented history of the disease with month/day/year.  1 dose is required if that dose was received before age 13.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Dtap): Must have received one dose within the last 10 years a the time of application.  Pertussis is required.
  • HEP-B: Your first of three (3) injections of the Hep-B Vaccine series must have been given before your registration date and must be included in your immunization records.  Hep-B must be completed or a Titer test must show you are positive for Hep-B antibodies prior to the start of your clinical time.
  • TB Skin Test: with negative TB test results must be performed within 180 days of class start date.
  • FLU VACCINE: Seasonal and H1N1 Flu Vaccine.  This vaccine is optional, however, if you opt out you will be required to wear a N95 mask during your ER clinical time.  N95 masks will be provided.
